He is also the nephew of former Major League Baseball player Jim Bibby.

As a freshman at the University of Arizona, Bibby helped lead the Wildcats to the NCAA championship in 1997, scoring 20 points in the title game versus the University of Kentucky. Following his sophomore season, Bibby entered the 1998 NBA Draft and was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies with the second pick.

In his first season with the Grizzlies, Bibby averaged 13.2 points, 6.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game earning NBA All-Rookie honors during the labor dispute shortened season. He improved those numbers in his next two seasons with the team, averaging 14.5 and 15.9 points per game but the Grizzlies remained a lowly team. On June 27, 2001, the Grizzlies sent Bibby and Brent Price to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Jason Williams and Nick Anderson following the franchise's relocation to Memphis. During the 2001-02 season, Bibby guided the Kings to the Western Conference Finals where they lost to the eventual NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers.

During the 2002-03 season, Bibby was hampered by injuries, playing in only 55 games, but still averaged a respectable 15.9 points per game. For the 2003-04 season, Bibby posted some of the best numbers of his career, scoring 1,506 points (18.4 per game) and helping the Kings reach the playoffs. Bibby helped to lift the Kings over the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, scoring a career playoff-best 36 points in the clinching Game 5.

Bibby is widely considered to be one of the most talented players in the NBA to never be named an All-Star.

Off the court

• Mike's long time ex-girlfriend Darcy Watkins lives in Phoenix, Arizona with their three children — son Michael Dane, daughters Janae and Mia Rose. (All three names can be spotted as three of Mike's tattoos).
• Mike has four siblings, brothers Hank and Dane, and sisters Charlsie and Roslyn.
• Bibby's brother-in-law, Eddie House, was a member of the Kings.
• Mike went to high school at Shadow Mountain High in Phoenix. (His annual camp, Mike Bibby Basketball Academy, is held at Shadow Mountain every year.)
• Is of Trinidadian descent from his mother, African-American from father.
